Our six founders all LOVE a good burger. For many of us, burgers are one of our favorite foods of all-time! Unfortunately, most people view the typical fast food meal of burgers, fries and sodas or shakes as a "cheat meal", or something you need to feel bad about and only do occasionally. We disagree!
To put it simply, our mission in creating Wild Pastures Burger Co is:
To be the healthiest fast casual burger chain in the world with the highest quality ingredients in every single item we serve
To be the most environmentally responsible fast casual restaurant chain in the world, where not only are we dedicated to "do less harm", but we're actually committed to being a SOLUTION to some of the biggest environmental issues of our time, including climate change, water quality, soil health, and protecting ecosystems.
We wanted to create a burger restaurant where EVERYTHING on the menu is something we can feel GOOD about eating. So while our main focus was on sourcing the absolute best quality regeneratively raised grass fed and grass finished beef, we also wanted to make sure the fries, sodas and shakes were as healthy as possible too, with the best quality ingredients.
Unfortunately, the fries at almost every single restaurant chain use harmful vegetable oils such as soybean, corn, canola, cottonseed and peanut oils that are highly refined, oxidized and damaged oils high in inflammatory omega-6 fats. While it may be controversial, many leading scientists, doctors and nutritionists now believe that vegetable oils are potentially the #1 worst food you can put in your body, significantly more damaging to your health than sugar (and we all know how bad excess sugar is for our health).
Our founders wanted to create the only burger chain that actually used healthier frying oils for our fries, and the absolute best frying oil in our opinion is grass fed tallow. Tallow is a more stable cooking oil and isn't prone to oxidation and damage to the fats like inflammatory vegetable oils. Tallow is also rich in healthy fats such as stearic acid and conjugated linoleic acid, as well as being high in monounsaturated fats and extremely low in inflammatory omega-6 fats. Tallow fries not only TASTE better than fries cooked in harmful vegetable oils, but they're the ONLY fries that we feel comfortable eating and giving to our families from a health perspective.
What about shakes? As you may know, the milkshakes at most restaurant chains often contain anywhere from 60 to 100 grams of carbs (most of that being sugar) depending on the size of the shake and the brand. Well, we wanted to provide a lower-carb, reduced-sugar option for everyone who is trying to eat less sugar or carbs, while still enjoying a creamy shake experience. In our delicious rich creamy milkshakes, we use a natural sweetener blend (no artificial sweeteners like sucralose or aspartame), and no added sugar, along with REAL cream.
As for sodas, we just couldn't sleep at night if we served your typical sodas containing 30 to 60 grams of sugar (depending on size), so we sourced naturally sweetened non-caloric sodas such as Zevia, as well as our own house-made sodas using natural sweeteners such as natural, organic honey and monk fruit.
One of the biggest issues of our time are the environmental and ecological issues caused by agriculture, and this applies to destructive industrial agriculture methods on BOTH the "plant-based" side, as well as the way animals are raised in modern feedlots.
Some of these issues caused by destructive forms of BOTH animal-based and plant-based agriculture are production of greenhouse gases contributing to climate change, soil erosion, soil destruction by pesticides and fertilizers, water pollution, and ecosystem damage.
When we created Wild Pastures Burger Co, we wanted to not only "do less harm", but we wanted to be an actual SOLUTION to all of these problems.
Our beef is sourced 100% from regenerative ranches and farms that are performing holistic rotational grazing methods on ecologically-diverse pasture lands. These holistic rotational grazing methods have been scientifically studied to actually sequester more carbon from the atmosphere and into soils, all while building topsoil fertility, protecting the soils from erosion with our dense pasture grasses, allowing more water to infiltrate into groundwater supplies, and protecting water quality of streams, rivers, and groundwater. In addition, our "Wild Pastures" where our beef is raised, is not sprayed with any pesticides or herbicides and maintains a high ecological diversity of both plant and animal life.
Compare that to those fake soy burgers at our competitors (we won't name names, but they're pitched as "healthier and better for the environment") which were grown in ecologically-dead soybean fields sprayed with harmful pesticides, herbicides and fertilizers that allow the destruction and erosion of soils, and pollution of waterways, all while putting even more carbon into our atmosphere. We certainly don't need more of those FAKE burgers which are destroying our planet.
At Wild Pastures, we're part of a growing movement of regenerative agriculture methods that actually works with nature to heal the land and helps pull carbon out of our atmosphere and put it back into our soils where it belongs!
All in all, we created Wild Pastures Burger Co so that you can feel GOOD about enjoying burgers that are nourishing your body while also helping to save our planet. That's why we like to say that we're "The Cheeseburger that Saved the World!"
If you're a science nerd and want to read more about how rotational grazing of cattle on pasture (regeneratively-raised grass-finished beef) can sequester large quantities of carbon from our atmosphere and safely store that carbon in soils, and how this is actually proving to be one of the biggest solutions for climate change, click here to read more in-depth science and studies on carbon capture using pasture and grazing animals.
